Walking Wide Awake in the Spiritual Space

This is a topic that has been very close to my heart lately.

The more this world of energy work grows, the more I find myself sitting with a mix of awe, concern, reverence and responsibility. The spiritual space is expanding at a pace that feels both exciting and unsettling. On one hand, it’s beautiful to see more people waking up to their own energy, intuition and inner wisdom. On the other, we’re witnessing something delicate turn into an industry. A marketplace. A space where visibility often overshadows depth and where monetisation sometimes moves faster than integrity.

This isn’t an accusation. It’s a reflection. A noticing. A very human attempt to understand how we can evolve this space without losing what makes it sacred in the first place.

What I’m observing is that the spiritual world has started to mirror the very systems many of us came here to dismantle. Fast-tracking certifications. Trend-driven practices. Popularity mistaken for mastery. The loudest voices being amplified instead of the most grounded ones. And with that comes a kind of spiritual inflation, where everything becomes content, where healers become brands, where the pressure to be “on” can overshadow the depth of real inner work.

But beneath all of this, there is a deeper truth: the spiritual space is powerful because it is delicate. It functions on trust, presence and responsibility. It shapes people in their most vulnerable seasons. Which means how we participate in it matters. How we offer, receive, learn, teach and engage matters. And this is where I’ve been doing a lot of my own questioning, because being wide awake in this space asks for more than just good intentions. It asks for self-inquiry. It asks for honesty. It asks for care.

So instead of simply critiquing the landscape, I want to offer the questions I ask myself. The ones that help me stay accountable to my own integrity and grounded in my own path. These aren’t about perfection. They’re about staying awake. Staying human. Staying in right relationship with this work.

If you hold space, facilitate or teach:

• Am I sharing from depth or from a pressure to stay relevant?

• Do I understand the lineage behind what I offer, and am I honouring it properly?

• Have I truly embodied the work I’m guiding others through?

• Do I know how to hold a nervous system in activation, collapse or trauma response?

• Am I continuing to study, learn and receive mentorship?

• Do I have the energetic hygiene to protect my field without collapsing from depletion?

• Am I centring the client’s experience or my ego’s desire to be seen?

• Do I know my limits, and do I honour them with humility?

• Who may feel excluded from the spaces I'm holding?

If you receive spiritual or energetic work:

• Am I choosing this practitioner because they feel safe or because they are popular?

• Do I understand the modality or am I chasing intensity or validation?

• Does this person educate and empower me instead of making me dependent?

• Do I feel grounded, respected and sovereign in their presence?

• Am I using spiritual work to avoid my life or to meet it with more awareness?

• Does this practice support my nervous system or consistently dysregulate it?

None of this is about judgement.

This space is too nuanced for black-and-white thinking.

These questions exist to help us all stay honest, because the spiritual world cannot evolve in a healthy way without our participation in its integrity.

And the truth is, this space is changing. Rapidly.

The more it grows, the more important it becomes to root ourselves in wisdom, depth and care. To remember that energy work is not entertainment. It is not a shortcut. It is not a trend. It is relational. It is intimate. It is transformative in ways that demand responsibility.

If we want a spiritual ecosystem that is safe, thoughtful and genuinely awakening, then we all play a part in how it takes shape. We get to choose how we show up. We get to question what we consume. We get to honour lineage while allowing evolution. We get to stay grounded in discernment instead of drifting into blind trust.

And most importantly, we get to stay awake.

Because this space becomes what we make of it. And it’s up to all of us to ensure that it grows in the direction of integrity, consciousness and care.
